CableCares Effort Benefits Schools/Charities In Washington, DC
Cox’s "Xpanded Bandwidth" Holds Onto Top Slot in Closing Night Charity Concert
WASHINGTON, DC – More than $150,000 in cash, equipment, books and in-kind donations was raised as part of CableCares, the cable industry’s community service initiative to help improve Washington, DC schools and assist local charities during The Cable Show '09. The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) estimates that more than 225 volunteers from cable industry companies, organizations, and associations contributed their time to volunteer on behalf of the several CableCares activities.

Members of Congress, the FCC and Administration to Participate in The Cable Show ’09
Legislators, policymakers and other key public officials will speak to delegates, participate on panels and tour exhibits at The Cable Show '09, April 1-3 at the Washington, D.C. Cable Show’s “Battle of the Bands” to Raise Funds For City Year and DC Schools
On Friday evening, April 3, the Washington Convention Center will rock to the sounds of bands competing in the National Cable & Telecommunications Association's (NCTA) "Battle of the Bands" competition to raise funds for City Year and Washington, DC schools. Battle of the Bands – featuring musicians from cable operators, networks, suppliers and the media - will be the closing event for The Cable Show '09, NCTA's 58th Annual Convention and International Exposition at the Washington Convention Center, April 1-3.

"CableCares" at Cable Show '09 Will Benefit DC Schools
As the cable industry's Cable Show moves to Washington, DC, for the first time since 1971, the industry's “CableCares” initiative will shift its focus in 2009 to donate time, materials and financial support to helping improve Washington, DC schools.
When the Cable Show visited New Orleans in 2008, the CableCares community service project provided assistance to ongoing recovery efforts in New Orleans. The 2009 CableCares effort will culminate during The Cable Show '09, the 58th Annual Convention and International Exposition of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), scheduled for the Washington Convention Center, April 1-3.

NCTA Seeks Nominees for 2009 Vanguard Awards
The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) issued its annual call for nominations for the Vanguard Awards, the cable industry’s highest honor. Now in its 44th year, the Vanguard Awards honor the cable industry’s foremost leaders and dedicated professionals whose accomplishments merit the recognition of the entire cable industry.
The awards will be presented at a special reception and ceremony on Friday, April 3, 2009 during The Cable Show ’09, NCTA’s 58th Annual Convention and International Exposition. The Cable Show ’09 runs April 1-3, 2009, at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

NCTA and SCTE Join in Call for Next Wave in Cable Innovation
The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) today issued a joint call for submissions for both the 2009 NCTA Technical Papers™ and for SCTE’s Conference on Emerging Technologies®. Highlights of accepted papers will be presented during Cable Connection Week – Spring, the cable industry’s new biannual week of consolidated industry events to be held April 1-7, 2009, in Washington, DC.

NCTA Locks in 2009 Schedules for Cable Connection Spring and Cable Connection Fall
A full slate of cable industry meetings, events and conferences is on tap for the first-ever “Cable Connection” weeks scheduled for April 1 - 7, 2009 in Washington, DC and October 25 - 30, 2009 in Denver. This past March, NCTA’s Board of Directors approved a plan to realign the national industry meetings and events produced by cable associations and professional societies into two weeks – one in the spring and one in the fall. While the overall schedule has been cooperatively coordinated by the various organizations involved, each sponsoring organization will plan and execute its respective events.
